Logos Parent Association – LPA

• English Language Classes

Hello!  How are you today?  Do you want to learn English to speak to your child’s teacher?   Do you want to be able to speak with other Logos parents in the community? 
If so, you may be interested in joining the new LPA sponsored English class.
When: 1-2 pm, the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month   
Where: Room 207 in the Library area
Classes will start on Wednesday, November 6, and be taught by Ms. Lily Nelson, one of the Logos Learning Support instructors.  Please contact her if you are interested or want more information: lnelson@asianhope.org

• Coffee Chat

LPA would like to invite you for coffee and conversation at the first Coffee Chat of the year.  Tuesday, November 19, from 8:00-9:00 – LPA will provide coffee and snacks. Also Mr. Belloni will be giving a short presentation on interpreting the MAP reports that just went home last week with the report cards.  The gathering will be in room 207, off of the library.

• Next Meeting – change

Are you creative?  Would you be willing to help with decorations for the school carnival in January?  Then come to room 207 on Wednesday, November 27, from 1:30-3:00 for an LPA planning meeting.  This is a date change from what was mentioned previously, so please mark your calendars for the 27th.  

Elementary After School Program

Session #1 of the After School Program ends this week – Friday Nov. 1st is the last day.  Thank you to everyone for their participation. The students really seemed to enjoy all the activities!

Session #2 will begin after Water Festival during the week of Nov. 18.  Registration information will go out to students next week.

Language Development for Bilingual Students – Parent Training Class

How can parents best support their children to be bilingual?
Come learn the answer to this question and more!

For: Parents
By: Two speech and language therapists – from City University of London volunteering with the City Cambodia Project
What: The bilingualism training will explore how language typically develops with bilingual children and how to best support this development at home. It will also indicate early signs for language disorders and the effect disabilities may have on typical language development whilst clarifying any myths about bilingual use overall.
When: Tuesday, November 5, 2019, 3:30-4:30 pm
Where:  Logos International School, room 308

Water Festival (Nov 7-17) is a No Homework Holiday

This means…

• No long-term projects or major tests can be due the week following the break
• Regular homework cannot be assigned unless there is an expectation that an assignment is not due until the second class period following the holiday

• AP Classes
• Online Classes -Online classes will still have assignments/classwork due during the holiday break

My child has a sore throat, should I send

them to school?

With the changing season it is normal for us and our children to get sore throats. By far, the most common cause of sore throat in children is any one of a large number of viruses, none of which are treatable with antibiotics. These viruses can cause high fever and very painful sore throat. They can feel just as bad or worse as strep throat.

Do not run your child to the doctor at the first sign of a sore throat. Wait a day or two, or more if your child is not acting ill. A sore throat alone is not a reason to keep children from school. All throat infections are transmitted via the saliva, either from coughing or contact with the bacteria or virus on an infected person’s hands or personal items. The incubation period (the time from when you contact the illness to the time when you feel sick) is 2 to 5 days. The incubation period for viral causes of sore throat in children varies from 3 days to 2 weeks. At Logos we promote clean hands and instruct the students to wash their hands frequently. This is the best protection from sharing germs rather than keeping your child home from school. Of course if they have a fever above 38 and/or are unable to keep their secretion to themselves or cover their cough then they should stay.
